As you would have heard on both local and national news, Leicester has become the first city in the UK to be put under a local lockdown, as the government seeks to curb a spike of coronavirus cases in the city.

In light of George Floyd's death last Monday - and the global unrest which has precipitated since - we wish to express our solidarity to the black community of Loughborough and beyond. The appalling event was a reminder of the insidious racism that continues to be prominent within many millions of lives, not only in the US but within the UK's very own streets.

As many Loughborough University students tackle deadline after deadline during what may be the most unprecedented period of our generation, we want to offer solace to students who are struggling to see the light beyond the intangible, Panopto-lead learning which does so little to facilitate academic progress which is truly reflective of true ability and potential.

Loughborough has appeared in the Top 5 UK universities for Business, Marketing and Management for several years running, so students from these departments will be no stranger to the term “investment”, but what does this mean to students?

As we approach the Easter break, it’s safe to say that Loughborough students have already had their fair share of uncertainty for the year. From weeks of industrial action to a rapidly-spreading pandemic, many have chosen to retreat back home since face-to-face teaching has been cancelled.

For students who might not be able to travel home during this period - whether that’s due to living overseas, undertaking self-isolation or for financial obstacles - we’re here to offer some practical advice for staying safe and healthy whilst you’re here in Loughborough. While we can provide some general guidance to students, we encourage you to continue following official NHS, government and WHO guidelines. 

Valentine’s day is fast approaching, and whether it’s a date night or a ‘Galentine’s day’ session, there are plenty of events happening in and just outside of Loughborough. From acoustic singalongs to a DJ night out, there is something to satisfy everyone this February 14th!

That’s it – you’ve done it, exams are finally over! It is time to enjoy a round of drinks without the feeling of guilt looming over you, and nap till your heart’s content. Loughborough University hosts various events after exams so whether they went well, or you would rather not think about them, refreshers can be enjoyed by each and every student!
